He debuted on August 8, 2016 with the digital single 'I hate you' and became known after winning five consecutive games on the 2017 Morning Show Dream Stage, but his path to success really began when he appeared on Mr. Trot in 2020. He opened the door to his heyday by winning the first place with an overwhelming vote rate of 7,731,781 votes in a real-time national vote, accounting for 25% of the total votes. After the end of his contract with TV Chosun, he politely declined love calls from numerous broadcasters and confidently focused on his main business of albums and singing. He released his first full-length album 'IM HERO' on May 2, 2022, selling 940,000 copies on the first day and 1.1 million copies in a week, setting the highest record for a male solo singer at the time. The album includes many trot songs, as well as songs of various genres such as ballads, rock, jazz, and hip-hop, and he began his full-fledged career as an all-rounder singer. [18] The OST for the KBS drama 'A Gentleman and a Lady', 'Love Always Runs Away', has been consistently loved since it ranked first on the annual karaoke chart, affecting the drama's viewership ratings, and the tvN drama 'Our Blues' insert song 'Our Blues' won the 'Song of the Year' award, which is given to the song that received the most copyright royalties in the music streaming category at the '10th KOMCA Copyright Awards' hosted by the Korea Music Copyright Association.

His debut song as a trot singer, 'Noona is Just Right', did not receive much attention, but his self-composed song 'Why Are You There', which he wrote based on his own experiences, gained popularity in its own way.[26] After that, in 2020, he appeared on TV Chosun's Tomorrow is Mr. Trot and won the 'Good' award, greatly increasing his recognition and entering the first heyday of his long career as a singer.
